چکیده

A variety of user-friendly spreadsheet templates have been developed for geoscience studies. However, the use of the built-in matrix functions within spreadsheet programs, such as Excel, is not particularly straightforward, lowering the value of spreadsheet programs for matrix-based computations, such as multiple regression analyses. Therefore, this study first developed two applications for Excel to perform multiple regression analyses in a much more user-friendly manner. Then using earthquake time histories from a reputable database, a series of regression analyses were performed. A new framework for on-site earthquake early warning based on multiple regression analyses is presented as an alternative to conventional models which were developed with single regression analyses. & 2013 Elsevier Ltd. Single station estimation of earthquake early warning parameters by using amplitude envelope curve

In this study, new empirical relationships to estimate key parameters in Earthquake Early Warning (EEW) system including magnitude, epicentral distance and Peak Ground Acceleration (PGA) are introduced based on features of the initial portion of P-wave’s amplitude envelope curve. For this purpose, 226 time series recorded by bore-hole accelerometers of Japanese KiK-net are processed for earthq...

Magnitude estimation for early warning applications using the initial part of P waves: A case study on the 2008 Wenchuan sequence

[1] A period parameter tc and an amplitude parameter Pd determined from the very beginning of P wave are important for earthquake early warning (EEW), yet their dependence on source mechanism, focal depth and epicentral distance has not been fully studied. After the devastating Mw7.9 Wenchuan earthquake, hundreds of M4-6 earthquakes occurred with diverse focal mechanisms and depth range of 2–20...

Decision criteria for Earthquake Early Warning applications

The recent large earthquakes have emphasized the importance of earthquake loss mitigation and how earthquake early warning (EEW) systems can help. An EEW system detects an earthquake initiation based on a seismic sensor network and broadcasts a warning of the predicted location and magnitude shortly before an earthquake hits a site. The typical range of this lead time is around tens of seconds ...

SoilEngineering: A Microsoft Excel® spreadsheet© program for geotechnical and geophysical analysis of soils

SoilEngineering is a user-friendly, interactive Microsoft Excel spreadsheet program for the geotechnical and geophysical analysis of soils. The influence of soil behavior on earthquake characteristics and/or structural design is one of the major elements in investigating earthquake forces, and thus the structural response with static and dynamic loads. With its interactive nature, the program p...

A threshold-based earthquake early warning using dense accelerometer networks

S U M M A R Y Most earthquake early warning systems (EEWS) developed so far are conceived as either ‘regional’ (network-based) or ‘on-site’ (stand-alone) systems. The recent implementation of nationwide, high dynamic range, dense accelerometer arrays makes now available, potentially in real time, unsaturated waveforms of moderate-to-large magnitude earthquakes recorded at very short epicentral ...
